Invitation to Turn Inwards
A Gentle Tool To Feel More
A tool I rely on to help myself and others access emotions is the Change Triangle. It helps us notice when we’re stuck and brings clarity to our emotional experience. There are four elements to the Change Triangle:
Defences – ways we protect ourselves.
Inhibitory emotions – shame, guilt, or anxiety that block emotions.
Core emotions – fundamental feelings like sadness, anger, fear, or joy.
Open Heart – a state of compassion, self-acceptance, and connection that emerges when we allow ourselves to fully feel our core emotions.
The Change Triangle helps us notice what’s really going on inside and make conscious choices about how to respond. Leaning into our core emotions helps us feel grounded, clear, and more connected to ourselves. Here is a Change Triangle journal exercise for you to try. It’s a gentle, guided way to explore your emotions and connect with what’s really beneath the surface.
